Kingstanding Food Community

Kingstanding Food Community is a 3 year project funded by the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities scheme. Based at the Kingstanding Leisure Centre, Dulwich Road, B44 0EW, the project aims to bring the community together through a range of free activities for local people.

Taking an innovative approach to food education, we offer friendly cooking workshops to individuals, families and groups. No-one is ever told what they should or shouldn’t eat, we simply get together and have fun with food.

The Community Café is open most days and is run by our fabulous team of volunteers. We serve delicious, healthy soups, sandwiches and cakes, with our fresh baked bread taking centre stage.

We also want to get people growing. We run gardening clubs for parents and children in local schools and have a team of volunteers who manage our allotment plots. We also have a lovely kitchen garden here at the leisure centre. We have a big seed give-away each spring to help people “Get Growing @ Home”

Families are at the heart of what we do, so we hold lots of free family-friendly activities at weekends and during the school holidays, where we cook and grow together. We like a bit of art-y stuff too, so there’s always plenty to enjoy.

We are always happy to work alongside other local groups and organisations, taking our cooking workshops out and about and can be seen at lots of local community events in the summer months. Look out for the smoothie bike!
